“Williamsport Welcomes the World”

 Mark your calendar for Friday, August 26th for the 2nd Annual “Williamsport Welcomes the World” Block Party in Downtown Williamsport. The streets will be filled with live music, art, kid’s activities, a lumberjack demonstration and food vendors. The feel of baseball will be in the air, with “Baseball Hall of Fame” Infielder Rod Carew from 6pm-7pm, you can find Rod in the Kids Zone. Downtown merchants will all be open offering special discounts along with a “Williamsport Welcomes the World” pin. Only 750 pins will be available that evening.

 It’s something for everyone, it’s an opportunity to enjoy what our downtown artists, musicians, and vendors have to offer in our wonderful historic city.

 There will be a Clear Channel Radio Live Broadcast on 102.7 Kiss-Fm, Variety 97.7-Fm and Bill Country 95.5-Fm from 5pm to 9pm sponsored by Price Optical of Williamsport …The iZon® High-Definition Vision Specialists.

 “This is another team effort for my administration and my Special Events Committee,” said Mayor Gabe Campana. “We wanted to create a great family fun event for residents and visitors and we did!” The Central Business district between Market and William streets will close to traffic to accommodate the four-hour celebration between 5pm and 9pm, on Friday August 26th.

The Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber has again provided its support by supplying "Williamsport Welcomes the World" pins, and making possible the appearance of “Baseball Hall of Fame” Infielder, Rod Carew to be present and meet fans during the celebration.

Mrs. PA USA 2011, Kate Mack will also be attending Williamsport Welcomes the world, Kate will be located in the Kids Zone.

Carriage Rides through our Historical Downtown will be available thru Appalachian Horse Help and Rescue. Ride start is located on William Street across from the Genetti Hotel.

Some of the local talent that will be performing on the Music Stage located on West Fourth and William Street:

 8:15-9 PM Clouds Make Sounds: Local high energy, all original eclectic rock band. Well known in the area among young people for their recent CD release Seasons and their recent concerts in the area including a highly successful Shaw at the CAC.

7:15-8 PM Banned Together: Local legends performing a variety of material from Motown classics to rock hits from the 60's and 70's.

5-6:00 PM Uptown Music Collective: A local, youth oriented, nonprofit school of music that is well known in the Williamsport area for its exciting performances.

6-6:45 PM Treehouse: An exciting new all original rock band, currently releasing their debut CD.

6:45-7:15 PM John O’Shivley: Singer-Songwriter

The Repasz Band : was founded in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1831 and is the oldest non-military band in continuous existence in the United States.
